The Art Studio
A side extension to a family home, creating a dedicated studio and workspace for an artist. The design is shaped by the need for generous natural light and carefully framed views, providing an inspiring environment for making, displaying and storing artwork.

Existing Ground Floor
The existing ground floor is fragmented into a series of small rooms, resulting in a disconnected layout and a compact kitchen with little relationship to the garden. While the house benefits from attractive views across the site, these are unexpectedly enjoyed from the ground floor WC rather than the primary living spaces.

Proposed Ground Floor
The proposed layout redistributes the qualities of light and outlook throughout the ground floor. The WC is relocated and incorporated within a utility space, releasing a prominent corner of the plan for a new home office with views across the garden. The artist's studio is carefully orientated to capture soft north light, creating a calm and adaptable workspace for making and storing artwork.

Structure Taking Shape
With the floor joists now in place, the form of the side extension begins to emerge on site, translating the design from drawings into physical space.

Roof Installation
The extension structure is taking shape, with the walls complete, steel beams installed, and the roof timbers being fitted before the roof covering is added.
